*Disclaimer: I know Christmas is about much much more than Santa but this post deals strictly with the big guy!
I’m one of those people obsessed with Christmas! OBSESSED! Like, I-still-believe kind of obsessed! Anyway, I hit a sort of a Christmas mid-life crisis 2 years ago when my son was born because I thought, for some reason, that it wasn’t going to be magical anymore. As an only child, Christmas is pretty much all about you and now all of a sudden, it’s no longer about me at all. This is a very selfish view to have, I know, but I couldn’t help it. It was hard for me to see the light when my baby was only 2 months old and had no idea what was happening around him. Even last year was a little meh since my son was still young enough that I could wrap his presents in front of him and he was none the wiser. Matching family Christmas pyjamas really helped me along that year lol.
This year, however, I am starting to see how wrong I am. Christmas is even MORE magical with children! My son now recognises Santa and is starting to get that wondrous twinkle in his eye. It’s now my mission to pass on the magic and inject Christmas spirit into everything! I’ve channelled my obsession lol!
Starting with this Santa “plate”! I was building, sanding, painting right up until Christmas eve this year because so many of C1’s gifts were made. It didn’t matter that I had so much on my “plate” (HA!) that I couldn’t even finish a sentence, I had to keep searching for more ideas. I saw a few Santa plate pins and decided that it would be cute to have a specific platter just for Santa that we can put out year after year. Then I saw people creating Santa cutting boards and I was sold. I’ll burn my own! So I sent ‘A’ out to hunt for the perfect cutting board on Christmas Eve eve and he delivered! This took maaaaaybe 3 hours from start to finish and I LOVE it!
Even as I type this, my son is shouting “Santa! Santa! Santa!” 🙂 It looks like Santa enjoyed this plate too 😉
This is going to be a lovely tradition!
